This project was concieved almost 2 years ago when our clients bought a ranch in Refugio County . The existing ranch house had been built in the 1980's in your standard country club style. With the help of our clients and architect Marie McNiel, we have re-styled it into a western ranch home that when finished will look as if it was built over 100 years ago and will blend beautifully with its surrounding landscapes.
The new project required the demolition of much of the exising house, leaving only the framing of the existing two story portion of the house and part of its roof framing. The first part of the slide show shows progress after two months. After 6 months we have come a long way as you see in the rest of the slide show. The masons have constructed the new chimney, added hieght to the existing chimney and encased both with field stone. After finishing the chimneys, the metal roofing went on while our masons continued by encasing the lower story with a builders-chop version of the same stone. All the stone work looks to be dry laid. The new porch posts are antique. hand-hewn beams from an Amish barn in Canada. The porch ceiling is new cedar that has been distressed and stained to look as old as the porch posts.
Check the three pages titles ranch upstairs, ranch entry mural and ranch downstairs to se the project almost finished as of february 2008.
